Central Washington Trombone Choir
The CWU Trombone Studio is recognized as one of the preeminent collegiate trombone studios in the entire Pacific Northwest region. It boasts a large studio of between 18–23 music majors and consists primarily of undergraduate students. The Studio also includes a Trombone Choir (credit class), as well as a Trombone Club, which acts as a volunteer student-driven fundraising organization that has supported guest artists such as: Ko-Ichiro Yamamato, Trombone Shorty, Toby Oft and Wycliff Gordon. Following an international vetting process, the CWU Trombone Choir has performed at both the 2022 International Trombone Festival and the 2016 American Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C., and was invited to perform at the 2020 International Trombone Festival in Osaka, Japan.
Members of the trombone studio have enjoyed a wide-rage of successes including: winner of the American Trombone Workshop - National Solo Jazz Competition, seven winners of the university concerto competition (six years in a row); two winners of the regional solo competition, MusicFest Northwest; placement (with scholarships) into summer festivals including The Cleveland Trombone Seminar (OH), The Pokorny Institute (CA), The Summer Brass Institute (CA) and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (MI), Vancouver Symphony Summer Institute (Canada); placement (with scholarships) into prestigious graduate performance programs (Boston University, DePaul, Duquesne, Manhattan School of Music); local and regional audition successes, as well as substitute performances with professional orchestras including the Spokane, Yakima, Missoula, Federal Way, Olympia, and Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestras. In addition, Music Education Majors enjoy a 100% placement/employment rate.
