Biography
SSG Wilson Childers is a Georgia-born, Alabama-raised and New York-trained musician based in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Childers found his passion for trumpet during his time at Auburn University while pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering. After a change in career trajectory, Childers found broad success as a trumpeter, appearing as Principal Trumpet with The Juilliard Orchestra, The Aspen Music Festival Orchestra, The Masterworks Faculty Brass Quintet, The Adirondack Performing Arts Fellowship and The Eastern Music Festival, where critics praised his “sweet tone and subtle vibrato.” Prior to joining The U.S. Army Band, Childers maintained an active performing career in New York City while pursuing a master’s degree at The Juilliard School. His principal teachers include Chris Martin, Ray Mase, Chris Gekker, Kevin Cobb and Dr. Mark DeGoti.
