Biography

SFC Kevin Maloney is an award winning soloist and chamber musician who has performed in Europe, Asia, Canada, and throughout the United States. Awards and recognition from national and international competitions include the Jeju International Brass Competition (2010); Ellsworth Smith International Solo Competition (2008); Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (2007); North American Brass Band Association Championships (2006/2007); National Trumpet Competition (2005/2007); and the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition (2005). Additionally in 2007, Maloney became the first trumpeter in over a decade to be named a winner in the Boston University Soloists Competition. As a chamber musician, Maloney has performed with some of today’s leading brass players and ensembles, including Boston Brass and the Brass Band of Battle Creek.A native of Burke, Virginia, Maloney attended East Carolina University (B.M.), Boston University (M.M./P.D.), and began doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. Primary teachers are Bill Siegfried, Britt Theurer, Terry Everson, Stephen Burns, William Campbell, and Bill Lucas. Additional studies with Laurie Frink, Gabrielle Cassone, and Jens Lindemann. Prior to joining “Pershing’s Own”, Maloney taught trumpet from 2007-2012 at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. Currently, Kevin lives in Arlington, VA with his wife, Jamie, and their son, Maxon.
