Biography

SSG Julia Gill is a native of Plantation, Florida, and joined the U.S Army “Pershing’s Own” Ceremonial Band in 2024. Gill earned her Bachelor’s of Music Education from the Florida State University in 2022, and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2024 prior to joining TUSAB. Throughout her career, Gill has performed in a variety of professional and semi-professional ensembles including symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, brass quintets, and trumpet ensembles. As a soloist, Gill is a three-time finalist of the National Trumpet Competition’s Military Excerpt Division, and has placed in the Graduate Solo Division. She is also a two-time finalist of the International Trumpet Guild Ryan Anthony Memorial Competition in the Wind Band Excerpts Division, winning first-prize in 2022. Her primary teachers include Mr. John Laing, Dr. Christopher Moore, and Dr. Ryan Gardner. Outside of playing the trumpet, Gill enjoys watching sports, reading books, listening to music, playing video games, and spending time with her family and friends.
