Biography

SSG Mitchell hails from Nashville, TN and joined the United States Army in 2009. Mitchell has proudly served in The United States Training and Doctrine Command Band, The United States Army Materiel Command Band, The United States Army Japan Band, and lastly The United States Army Ceremonial Band. SSG Mitchell has performed musical missions for the Army around the United States and the world including Kuwait, The United Arab Emirates, and Japan. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from DePaul University in 1996, where he studied with Larry Combs and John Bruce Yeh of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Mitchell moved back to Nashville, TN. After arriving back in Nashville, he joined the faculty of Vanderbilt University and became a regular performer with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. With the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Mitchell routinely performed with the leading artists of the classical, pop, jazz, rock, and country genres and made numerous recordings. Mitchell performed at the grand opening of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and joined the orchestra in their inaugural performance at Carnegie Hall.In addition to his work with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Mitchell was a member of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra for 10 seasons and performed regularly with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, and the Whitland Band of Renown.When not performing, Mitchell enjoys both analog and digital photography, writing letters, hiking, and spending time with his friends and family.
