Biography

I started my musical career at the age of 15

Home in the Sauerland/West Germany, where I learned to play the trombone. During my training as a carpenter, I switched to the tuba and was then accepted as a conscript in the Symphonic Concert Band of the German Armed Forces. After successfully auditioning for the Bundeswehr Training Band in Hilden, i decided to pursue my calling as a professional orchestra musician.

I began my music studies in 2004 and completed it in 2009 with a diploma in orchestral music. During my studies with Prof. Hans Gelhar and Prof. Hans Nickel at the Robert Schumann Hochschule of Music in Düsseldorf, i also studied tenor tuba/euphonium as a minor subject and had great success in this area as well.

In addition to my main activity as a solo tuba player in the Symphonic Concert Band of the German Armed Forces i regularly work as a substitute with renowned orchestras, including the Beethoven Orchestra the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne, the State Theatre Oldenburg State Theatre, the Münster Symphony Orchestra, the Hessian State Wiesbaden State Theatre, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the South Westphalian Philharmonic Orchestra Hilchenbach, the Bergische Symphoniker, the Philharmonic Orchestra Hagen and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. I have also made an extraordinary name for myself through numerous recordings on CDs and solo and abroad. I am proud of the fact that not only nationally, but also internationally as a sought-after soloist on stage. In fact, i travel all over the world to present Masterclasses and new tuba literature and inspire my audiences. In 2021, a piece was dedicated to me that bears the name "Tuba-Total" - an incredible honour for me.

Although after winning an audition at the Staatstheater Oldenburg i had the opportunity to work with this orchestra, but i decided to stay in the Bundeswehr and continue my passion for opera and orchestral literature in various other orchestras.

I also had the opportunity to go on concert tours to countries such as South Korea, China, Brazil, Africa, Russia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, France, Spain, USA, Norway, Austria, Latvia and Turkey. In 2014, I was appointed by the Richard Wagner Society as a scholarship holder to the Bayreuth Festival, a time that had a huge impact on me and broadened my musical broadened my musical horizons.

In the last few years i have been able to share my extensive knowledge in high-calibre workshops and masterclasses, e.g. in Brazil, Italy, Latvia, Holland, Spain, the Czech Republic, for low brass, among others with Prof Hans Nickel, Prof Andreas Hofmeir and the German Tuba Forum. At the I was able to successfully share my knowledge in the field of orchestral repertoire. From 2024 I will assist in the tuba class of Prof. Davide Borgonovi at the music conservatory Alfredo Casella in L'Aquila/Italy once every semester.

I have been a proud artist of the Eastman company since 2021 and represent the instruments at home and abroad. I have also developed my own mouthpiece series for bass and contrabass tuba with a well-known mouthpiece maker. In my spare time i am very enthusiastic about the history of the tuba and its history of the tuba and its instruments. Many of these instruments are in my private collection. At the beginning of 2021, my tuba practice book "Total - Tuba" was published by a well-known publisher. I am proud that it contains 31 exercises by me and other international tuba players and professors. I am working hard to develop new literature for tuba quartet and brass quintet. All my works are published and enjoy great interest.

To further improve my skills, i regularly attend workshops, masterclasses and work with professional brass ensembles. I have been playing in professional brass ensembles in my home region and beyond for over 15 years, which gives me an enormous repertoire in the field of chamber music. In 2021, I released my first solo CD, featuring classical music for solo tuba and harp. In early 2024 my second solo CD was released featuring the tuba in various new instrumentation forms such as brass band, woodwind quintet and symphonic wind orchestra. I am very proud of these recordings and i hope that they will make the tuba better known in the classical music world.

I am constantly maintaining close relationships with various professors at music academies at home and abroad to further my education and to network. The opportunities I have had so far have meant a lot to me, and i look forward to fascinating projects to come.
